Become a Reading Program Tutor, Change the World!

You can change the life of an adult in your community by becoming a Reading Program tutor.

Adults in Santa Clara County need help to gain basic literacy, math, or computer skills that will enable them to succeed as workers, parents, and community citizens. The Library’s Reading Program is looking for volunteers to become tutors to help our learners reach their educational goals.

When adults reach their educational goals, their families and communities grow stronger. With the critical support of our dedicated volunteers, we can make a difference.

To become a Reading Program tutor, you must be at least 18 years old, have an understanding of basic English, and be able to communicate in a learner-centered environment. The program offers expert training and support, and no previous teaching experience is required.

Become an adult literacy volunteer and help empower an adult learner to reach their full potential to participate more fully in society. To volunteer for The Reading Program, call (408) 262-1349 or email readingprogram@sccl.org. View our full Tutor Orientation & Training schedule.
