A Time for Solidarity

Public libraries play an important role in facilitating racial and social justice in our communities, and Santa Clara County Library District honors our commitment to ensure everyone is welcome, treated with respect, and has the opportunity for life-long learning.

We join our voices with the American Library Association, the Public Library Association, the Black Caucus of the American Library Association, and the library community nationwide. As a co-signer of the Urban Libraries Council Statement on Race and Social Equity, SCCLD reaffirms our dedication in the fight against racism and to be true to our mission and offer diverse materials and programs to promote knowledge, ideas, and cultural enrichment.

The Library serves our communities to promote tolerance, advance inclusiveness, and be a platform for freedom of expression. As we have witnessed across the country, people standing in solidarity and speaking up in support of Black Lives Matter, we are making progress, but we still have much work to do. The Library is here with resources and booklists on racial equity to help us all come to a clearer understanding of how to move forward together.
