Out in My Garden

Out in my garden

Early in the morning,

See the little vegetables all in a row.

See the rows of carrots,

and the rows of peas.

Water, hoe, grow, grow

In my garden please.

Pre-Literacy Tip: Finding Friends in Low Places - Down in the Dirt and Mud!

The importance of feeling the earth in your hands is as basic as looking at the clouds in the sky. What adult does not remember playing in the mud as a very young (or old) child? Mud pies are the stuff of good memories and learning about our world. The Tinkergarten folks have many activities for that - in fact, Tinkergarten, the nonprofit has a mission to "facilitate joyful, memorable and educational play experiences for families in outdoor spaces in every community."

You can find many wonderful activities to do with your children from birth through school-age. The one I found for this episode is called:

Friends in Low Places  where kids use sticks, rocks and fingers to loosen the soil and uncover a whole world that creeps and crawls beneath their feet.

Enjoy a special time with your child, some dirt (and worms) and bugs and a magnifying glass with this activity and learn about friends they may not have known before! Then, enjoy Up in the Garden and Down in the Dirt by Kate Messenger. Along the way, you and your family can dig deeper and sign up for Summer Reading 2020!
