Your Favorite Books!

What great book recommendations! All of these books, and their reviews, are taken from the Los Altos Library's Season of Sharing (Your Favorite Books!) display. They're only ten of the wonderful recommendations we received from both staff and patrons. Thank you to everyone who came to the library and took the time to share their favorite book!

Minding Frankie by Maeve Binchy – Told in Binchy’s warm, hospitable style, this story of community raising a child – pitted against a misguided social worker – draws you in and leaves you feeling good about life.

The Secret Scripture
The Secret Scripture by Sebastian Barry – This Irish author writes beautifully and the story of the old woman and psychiatrist in the insane asylum is compelling. No spoilers – you will want to find out what happens yourself.

The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle
The 7 ½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton – A time-looping murder mystery set in a secluded 1920s manor house. The protagonist wakes up each morning in the body of one of the guests. In order to escape, he must solve Evelyn’s murder!

Alanna
Alanna: The First Adventure by Tamora Pierce – The message that something you want to be good at might not come totally naturally, but that you can work at it to learn to be a natural, got me through high school.

Hunger
Hunger by Roxane Gay – An important memoir of the body and how we live in it.

The Lost City of the Monkey God
The Lost City of the Monkey God by Douglas Preston – Suspenseful non-fiction chronicle of a 2012 expedition to locate a fabled lost city in the Honduran rain forest. This thrilling tale has it all: classified technology, mysterious discoveries, breathtaking adventure, a horrifying disease, and a cast of characters that includes swindlers, ex-soldiers, academics, politicians, and a bullying American fixer.

Magic Bites
Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews – Written by a husband and wife team, Magic Bites has the witty comebacks of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a powerful heroine, and you know it’s the start of a smoldering paranormal romance…

The Sun Is Also A Star
The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon – This book is about two totally different people who meet unexpectedly and try an experiment. I hope you enjoy reading it!

Circe by Madeline Miller – Fans of Greek mythology and historical fiction, check out Miller’s tale of gods, wars, and the mortals who get caught in the middle.

The Septembers of Shiraz
